MODX's sound engine is based on the same technology powering MONTAGE's flagship: AWM2 (Advanced Wave Memory 2) sample and synthesizer and pure FM-X (Frequency Modulation) synthesizer upgraded for stunning audio playback and comprehensive sound design.
The AWM2 sound engine, found only in Yamaha music synthesizers, offers much more than just sample playback. Each of the AWM2's 16 parts includes eight fully programmable filter synths (18 different types!) amplitude, pitch and filter envelope generators, nine LFOs, a 3-band EQ and a special dual insert effect with virtual circuit modeling.
FM-X is an amazingly sophisticated clean synth engine that can create a classic 80's sound or cutting edge EDM sound with incredible dynamic range, power and fidelity. MODX has an 8-operator FM architecture and 64-note polyphony, which enables a huge number of sound design options.
MODX has 128-note stereo AWM2 polyphony and 64-note FM-X polyphony. Thanks to MODX and MONTAGE's unique architecture, this polyphony is always available without delay or compromising other features.
Seamless Sound Switching (SSS) allows you to change settings seamlessly without interrupting the envelope or effects. This is ideal for live performances where you end one song and start another without interruption.

MODX is packed with DSP innovations, performance and especially sound quality - from high-resolution reverbs to incredibly detailed VCM (Virtual Circuit Modeling) effects. Use effects like Beat Repeat, Vinyl Break or Bit Crusher to get an EDM sound. The Spiralizer effect creates the sonic illusion of a note constantly rising or falling in pitch without being higher or lower.
You can even add a compressor with a sidechain for a modern "ducking" effect. Or you can go retro with vintage effects like Analog Delay, VCM Phaser or various amp simulators. As expected in modern computer music production, MODX is equipped with a professional multi-channel USB audio interface with 4 inputs and 10 outputs. A single cable connection replaces the need for an external audio interface. compatible with iOS.
Super Knob enables simultaneous control of up to 128 parameters within one performance. This means you can control almost anything from mix functions such as volume, pan and effects sends, to detailed synthesizer parameters such as filters, LFOs and Operators.
The Super Knob can even be assigned to a second FC7 foot controller, making it easy to manipulate the sound when playing with both hands.
