Spandau Ballet

Spandau Ballet

Spandau Ballet was an English new wave band formed in London in 1979. Emerging from the post-punk and New Romantic scenes, they became leading figures in 1980s British pop, known for their sophisticated style and catchy "European Dance Music." The group featured Gary Kemp on guitar and songwriting, Martin Kemp on bass, Tony Hadley on vocals, Steve Norman on saxophone, and John Keeble on drums. Their debut single "To Cut a Long Story Short" reached the UK top five, and their biggest hit, "True," topped UK charts and became a global classic. Over their career, Spandau Ballet sold 25 million albums, achieved 23 international hit singles, and played a key role in the Second British Invasion of US pop charts. Notably, they performed at Live Aid in 1985 and contributed to Band Aid. Despite a lengthy hiatus and lineup changes, including Tony Hadley's exit in 2017, the band's legacy as icons of the New Romantic era remains significant.
