The J. Geils Band was an American rock group formed in 1967 in Worcester, Massachusetts by guitarist John Geils. The classic lineup featured Peter Wolf on vocals, Richard Magic Dick Salwitz on harmonica and horns, Stephen Bladd on drums, Seth Justman on keyboards, and Danny Klein on bass. Known for their energetic blend of R and B–influenced blues rock in the 1970s, the band later embraced a more mainstream new wave sound in the early 1980s, which marked their commercial peak. They were celebrated both for dynamic original songs—mainly written by Wolf and Justman—and spirited covers of blues and R and B classics, with some group compositions credited under the name Juke Joint Jimmy. Among their most popular hits are Must of Got Lost, Love Stinks, Centerfold, and Freeze-Frame, with Centerfold reaching number one in 1982. After Wolf departed in 1983, the band released one final album before disbanding in 1985, but reunited several times until the passing of J. Geils in 2017.
