Inspiral Carpets are an English rock band formed in Oldham in 1983 and became a key part of the Madchester scene in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Known for their signature combination of swirling organs, distorted guitars, and psychedelic rock influences, the band’s most recognized lineup included Tom Hingley, Craig Gill, Graham Lambert, Martyn Walsh, and Clint Boon. Initially fronted by Stephen Holt, the group signed to Mute Records before achieving mainstream success. After periods of lineup changes and inactivity, including the passing of Gill in 2016, Inspiral Carpets announced their return to the stage with a UK tour in 2023.
