Stagg VN 4/4 Solbränd Violin

Stagg VN 4/4 SB Violin — A Full-Size Handcrafted Starter Instrument

The Stagg VN 4/4 SB is a full-size acoustic violin for adult beginners who want a properly built instrument rather than a toy-grade starter. With a body of roughly 35–36 cm and an overall length of about 59 cm, it accepts a regular shoulder rest from day one. This model suits adult learners who need a solid-wood violin they can grow into.

What Sets This Violin Apart

Most violins at this price use laminated tonewoods; this one pairs a solid spruce top with solid maple back and sides. A maple bridge is hand-fitted to the top, and the ebonized hardwood fingerboard gives the playing surface the smooth, dark feel that serious students expect.

Solid Tonewoods — The Foundation of a Real Violin Sound

Solid tonewoods define how a violin sounds and ages. A solid spruce top is light and stiff, vibrating freely for a clear, focused tone with good projection. Solid maple on the back and sides adds density and reflective mass, supporting the lower strings and giving the instrument its characteristic warm body.

• The solid spruce top acts as a carved soundboard that drives projection and articulation.
• Back and Sides: Solid maple — dense tonewood that shapes sustain and lower-string warmth.
• Maple neck — stable under string tension through seasonal changes.
• Fingerboard: Solid wood, ebony colour (ebonized) — smooth dark surface for accurate left-hand placement.

Hardware That Makes Tuning Easier

Four integrated fine tuners let the student dial in each string precisely without unwinding the pegs, which matters during the first months of training when small pitch adjustments are constant. The maple bridge is shaped to match the top's curvature, and the chin rest and tuning pegs are molded in black plastic for low maintenance.

• Tailpiece: Black metal with 4 fine tuners — precise per-string tuning for clean intonation.
• Maple bridge — transmits string vibration efficiently to the spruce top.
• Chin rest: Black plastic — comfortable, sweat-resistant, easy to wipe clean.
• Black plastic tuning pegs with smooth action for stable tuning during practice.

Full-Size Format and Complete Starter Package

The 4/4 designation makes this the largest, full-size violin in the Stagg line, intended for adults and older teens whose arm length matches the standard 59 cm instrument. The package includes the violin, a bow, rosin for coating the bow hair, and a standard-shaped soft case for transport between home, lessons and rehearsal rooms.

• Size: 4/4 (full-size) — body length 35–36 cm, total length ~59 cm.
• Finish: Sunburst gloss — classic warm-brown gradient with a polished surface.
• Included: Soft case, bow and rosin — everything required to start playing out of the box.

Who Should Buy This Model

The instrument is the right choice for adult beginners, returning players, and parents buying a first serious violin for a teenaged student who has outgrown a fractional-size instrument. It suits self-taught learners working through a method book, students preparing for school orchestra, and adults joining community ensembles who want an instrument that responds well to practice without demanding constant setup adjustments.
