The Impulse That Changed Heavy Guitars

SPRES, also known as Catharsis, started as a guitar cabinet impulse shared on the Sneap forums and has since appeared on hundreds of records. Make Believe Studios and Metric Halo now offer it officially as a plug-in, developed by Ryan Harvey, together with a new impulse created by Ryan Harvey and Antonio D'Aquino.

How It Works

SPRES is meant to go in place of a guitar cabinet. Connect your amp to the DAW through a speaker or load box, or turn off the cabinet simulation in your favorite amp sim, and insert SPRES. The fader blends between the two cabinet impulses, going fully to one side gives 100 percent of that cab, and each cabinet has its own EQ preset from Ryan Harvey (R) or Antonio D'Aquino (T), or the EQ can be switched off. It can also be used in parallel.

Who It Is For

SPRES is the right choice for guitarists, producers and mix engineers recording heavy guitars with amp sims or direct amp signals who want a proven cabinet sound with zero latency. It runs as a 64-bit AU, VST2, VST3 or AAX plug-in on Mac OS X 10.10 or newer (Intel or Apple Silicon) and as VST or AAX on Windows 7 or newer; licensing uses an iLok.com account with two activations, and an iLok dongle is optional.
