Stevie Ray Vaughan

Stevie Ray Vaughan

Stephen Ray Vaughan, known as SRV, was an American guitarist, singer, and songwriter, celebrated as the frontman of Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble. Born in Dallas in 1954 and inspired by his older brother Jimmie Vaughan, he started playing guitar at age seven. Moving to Austin in his late teens, Vaughan’s energetic playing quickly made him a standout in the Texas blues scene. Forming Double Trouble with Tommy Shannon and Chris Layton, Vaughan gained national attention after a notable performance at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 1982. This led to collaborations with major artists, including David Bowie on the album Let's Dance. Vaughan's band signed with Epic Records and released Texas Flood in 1983, sparking a major blues revival in the 1980s. Despite his tremendous musical impact, Vaughan faced personal struggles with addiction, which he overcame later in his career. His 1989 album In Step featured his only number-one hit, Crossfire, and marked a creative high point. Vaughan’s electrifying guitar style and passionate performances earned him a reputation as one of the greatest blues musicians and guitarists of all time. Tragically, Vaughan’s life was cut short in a 1990 helicopter crash after a concert in Wisconsin. He has sold over 15 million albums in the United States, and his influence endures through his recordings. Stevie Ray Vaughan was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2015, alongside his Double Trouble bandmates.
