New Order

New Order

New Order is an English rock band formed in Salford in 1980 by Bernard Sumner, Peter Hook, and Stephen Morris, rising from the ashes of Joy Division after the death of Ian Curtis. With the addition of Gillian Gilbert later that year, New Order became pioneers in blending post-punk and electronic dance music. Their groundbreaking single Blue Monday became a club classic and the best-selling twelve-inch single ever. Throughout the eighties, the band played a key role in Manchester’s Factory Records scene and its legendary nightclub, The Haçienda, also collaborating closely with designer Peter Saville for their iconic album artwork. New Order released influential albums such as Power Corruption and Lies, Substance, and Technique, earning critical and commercial success. After a brief disbandment in the 1990s, they reunited with shifting lineups, notably parting ways with Peter Hook in 2007. In 2015, they released Music Complete. In 2023, New Order and Joy Division were nominated together for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, reflecting their enduring impact on modern music.
