Bob Marley

Bob Marley was a Jamaican singer, songwriter, and guitarist, widely recognized as a pioneer of reggae music. Blending reggae, ska, and rocksteady, he developed a unique sound and songwriting style that brought international attention to Jamaican music. As a global cultural icon, Marley became a symbol of Rastafarian spirituality, Jamaican identity, and social activism, openly supporting democratic reforms and Pan-Africanism, as well as advocating for the legalization of cannabis. Born in Nine Mile, Jamaica, he began his career in the early 1960s with Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer, forming the Wailers. Their music gained worldwide popularity, especially after partnering with Island Records, leading to notable albums like Catch a Fire, Exodus, and Rastaman Vibration. Major hits such as No Woman, No Cry and One Love cemented his international status. Marley survived an assassination attempt in 1976 and continued his influential work until his death in 1981 after battling cancer. His legacy lives on through classic albums and the greatest hits collection Legend, the best-selling reggae album ever. Marley remains celebrated as one of the most influential artists in music history, honored by multiple awards and recognitions, including induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.
