This neck plate design was developed by Leo Fender in the 1940s and has remained basically the same since, being used on countless models by Fender® and other brands.
It is a simple but very effective way of screwing a bolt-on neck onto a guitar. The steel plate spreads out the load of the 4 screws and holds the heads securely.
