Asia is an English rock supergroup formed in London in 1981 by members of prominent progressive rock bands from the 1970s. The original lineup featured vocalist and bassist John Wetton, guitarist Steve Howe, keyboardist Geoff Downes, and drummer Carl Palmer. Their debut album, released in 1982, achieved major commercial success, topping charts internationally and earning the title of the best-selling album in the United States for that year. The hit single "Heat of the Moment" remains their most recognized song. Over the years, Asia experienced numerous lineup changes, with key departures and reunions, including a notable reunion of the original members in 2006. In addition to the main band, Asia Featuring John Payne emerged as a continuation led by John Payne from 1991 to 2006. Subsequent years saw more changes, with musicians such as Sam Coulson, Billy Sherwood, Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal, and Marc Bonilla joining for various tours and projects. In 2024, Geoff Downes introduced a new touring group with Virgil Donati, John Mitchell, and Harry Whitley, continuing Asia’s legacy on stage.
