The Opinel Knife Story began in the 19th century in Albiez-Le-Vieux, France. Trader Victor-Amédée Opinel founds the first forge to use the knowledge of forging nails he has acquired on his travels. Knives are made in the Savoy Alps in France, where they are hand-assembled and ground. Handle wood also comes from France, from a permanently sustainable forest.
