Fender Standard Precision Bass MN Olympic White — The Return of an Industry Standard

Fender Standard Precision Bass MN Olympic White brings the original workhorse electric bass back into reach for a new generation of players. Built around a poplar body, a bolt-on maple neck, and a single ceramic split-coil pickup, this instrument delivers the focused low end and midrange growl that have anchored hit records since the 1950s. The Standard Precision Bass is the right choice for working bassists who need the classic P Bass voice without stepping into American-made pricing territory.

What Sets the Standard Precision Bass Apart

Two details separate this reissue from generic P Bass copies. The Fender Standard Series ceramic split-coil pickup is engineered to retain the historic P Bass character while staying articulate in modern arrangements. The satin urethane finish on the back of the maple neck gives the instrument a broken-in feel straight out of the box.

Body Construction — Poplar Tonewood for Focused Sound

Poplar has long been a Fender favorite for its balanced response, and this model uses it to anchor the low end without becoming muddy.

• Body Material: Poplar — delivers the focused, mid-forward character that defines the P Bass voice
• A gloss polyurethane finish provides a durable, stage-ready sheen that protects the wood.

Neck Profile — Modern C Shape Built for Speed

The bolt-on maple neck uses a Modern C profile, and the satin urethane finish lets the left hand glide during fast runs.

• Neck Material: Maple — bright, articulate response with a snappy attack
• Fingerboard Material: Maple — adds clarity and a glassy top end
• Scale Length: 864 mm — the classic P Bass tension and fundamental
• Fingerboard Radius: 241 mm — modern feel without losing vintage character

Pickup and Controls — The Legendary P Bass Voice

The ceramic split-coil pickup is the heart of the instrument, wired in series to cancel hum while preserving the note definition that humbucking designs often lose.

• Pickup Configuration: S (single split-coil) — the classic P Bass thump and growl
• Pickup: Fender Standard ceramic split-coil — historic tone, modern articulation
• Controls: Volume, Tone — straightforward, session-ready shaping
• Preamp Electronics: Passive — true vintage signal path

Who Should Play the Standard Precision Bass

The Standard Precision Bass is the right choice for working players, students upgrading from a Squier, and gigging bassists who want the iconic P Bass sound without paying flagship prices. It suits rock, Motown, indie, country, and pop styles equally well.

Fender and the Birth of the Electric Bass

Fender introduced the Precision Bass in the early 1950s as the first mass-production electric bass guitar. Wrecking Crew session bassist Carol Kaye used her Precision on Beach Boys classics like "California Girls" and "Good Vibrations," while Motown legend James Jamerson's 1962 Precision — nicknamed "the Funk Machine" — drove the bounce of "My Girl" and "What's Going On." The Standard series carries that lineage forward.
